Tell Me the Watch You Wear and I Will Tell You Who You Are...

The lasting value of watches is both material and emotional.
We appreciate luxury watches because of their refined mechanic, their high standards of workmanship and quality, their unique and elegant designs and their precious materials;
but also because they allow us to say something about ourselves.
A status, a family symbol, a story about a father and his son, an achievement… that is what they are and this is why we buy them.
These brands give us the finest masterpieces together with a unique emotion, and social media are the means to exchange these emotions with others.

The followings are some nice quotes on watches:

IWC advertisement with Norma Jean
“Rolex is more like a religion than a watch” -John Sapphire

“Omega - The link between the past and the future” -Omega slogan

“Outside of a dog, a watch is man's best friend. Inside a dog, it's too dark to tell time” -Groucho Marx

“If only I had known, I should have become a watchmaker.” -Albert Einstein

"Like a genial hotelier, Rolex has introduced me to some of the nicest people. I ask about their Rolex and they ask about mine. It's as marvelous a conversation piece as it is a timepiece." -Maurice Chevalier (1964)

"Where did you get your Rolex? Leaders in all walks of life acknowledge that pride of Rolex ownership starts conversations...makes strangers friends and distinguishes each as a person of taste and judgment. This is to be expected...for discriminating leaders throughout the world depend upon Rolex to guard their precious time." -Rolex Bob Hope Ad (1960)

Out of the eight brands presented (Rolex, Omega, Patek Philippe, Chopard, TAG Heuer, IWC, Breitling and Breguet), which one do you think offers the best value for its price?

  1. I think Rolex has a good price/quality ratio

  2. How should I know, I only can afford a swatch :)

  3. This must be a very subjective definition of price/quality. you get the same material quality for less money. but rolex is a status symbol - for old, rich men or russian oligarches - or annas who likes russian oligarches.
so if you want a good price/quality ratio you have to buy a patek philippe. this brand expresses youth, dynamic and success.

  4. there are many russian businessmen who wear rolex, you are right. its a very popular brand in eastern europe. but i think you can wear it in the rest of the world without shame, too.

  5. There is very little to distinguish these brands in terms of quality, but rather their design and the social identity they possess. Thus, their price/quality ratio is just as subjective as their brand management.
Otherwise, their is no legitimacy in terms of price based on the production costs as they seem to have generated and manipulated value, selling status symbols as well simultaneously with way less materialistic value.

  6. I think that Omega has the best price/quality ratio, according to my experience.

  7. Wearing a Rolex is a mean to communicate our success to others, the demonstration of a successful life. But each of us gives different value to things: I personally prefer the Omega, in memory of my grandfather.

  8. Rolex managed to become such a status symbol in the last few years that I think it is one of the most faked brands...

  9. Yes, a lot of people got a fake Rolex!!! There are people going to Thailand to get one...

  10. Rolex is for the masses, but a true watch lover would prefer a Patek!!!!
